Morton’s Neuroma

Have you ever removed your shoe because you thought you were standing on a pebble or your sock needed readjusting? But when you went to check, nothing was out of place but your foot still hurt? Chances are you may be experiencing a painful condition called Morton’s neuroma, which affects the ball of your foot. We at Knoxville Footcare are committed to diagnosing and correcting foot problems as quickly and efficiently as we can. This includes Morton’s neuroma.

According to Mayo Clinic, “Morton's neuroma involves a thickening of the tissue around one of the nerves leading to your toes.” This causes a tingling or numbing in your toes and a burning or stinging pain in the ball of your foot. If the pain lasts longer than a few days, it’s recommended that you see your Knoxville Podiatrist, Dr. Kelly S. Bumpus.

These can increase your chances of Morton’s neuroma:

- High-impact sports, such as running or any other sport that subjects your feet to constant, repetitive trauma. Even sports such as rock climbing, where tighter shoes are needed for grip, causes pressure on the toes.

- It’s commonly known that heels aren’t the most comfortable for your feet, so just think about what they do to your toes. Heels that are tight or ill-fitting can place excessive pressure on the toes and ball of your foot.

- Foot deformities, such as bunions, hammertoes, high arches, of flatfeet.
